Acton is a very popular and attractive district of West London located in the London Borough of Ealing.
Originally a Saxon village, it expanded and became absorbed into the city. By the 20th century it had become a major industrial hub and home to several vehicle and components industries. The famous industrial site of Park Royal lies within Acton.
Apart from offering job opportunities to residents, it offers excellent leisure facilities, pubs, restaurants, not forgetting the famous Acton Municipal Baths which also house a gym run by Ealing Council.
Acton High Street boasts a range of pubs and restaurants. The Redback Tavern is a popular pub and has become a hub for the many young Antipodeans and South Africans who live in the area. The recently opened “Belvedere” is run by a Polish pub chain. There is also a multitude of restaurants to be found ranging from Lebanese and Chinese to Spanish and Polish. Apart from Acton Baths, on the east end of the High Street, lies Acton Park which offers bowls facilities, a children’s play area , tennis courts and an art block. A café lies next to the bowling green selling meals, snacks and light beverages.
Acton offers great educational opportunities with excellent schools such as Twyford Church School, Ellen Wilkinson School, Acton High School as well as the Barbara Speake Stage School, and also by 3 Japanese schools There are also good primary schools in the area.
Acton boasts excellent transport links to the West End and the City, it is serviced by the Central line and British Rail and the area will be part of Crossrail once it is completed.
